The Agency periodically needs to recruit qualified personnel for these positions. The House Supervisor position is the one for which the Agency most frequently recruits staff. Below are the general qualifications we seek for all employees and additional qualifications for certain positions such as House Supervisor. General Qualifications
- Eligible for Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance (Correctional Service of Canada).
- University degree or two-year college diploma preferably in a related field.
- Well-developed assertiveness, critical thinking and problem-solving, interpersonal communication, personal organization, report-writing, teamwork and intermediate computer (Office 2007—Word, Outlook) skills.
- Must demonstrate ability to follow standard operating procedures, ability to think quickly and clearly in a crisis, commitment and integrity to follow through to completion, maturity and emotional control, patience.
- Must demonstrate personal commitment to professional standards of work, to the Agency’s mission of assisting marginalized adults to reintegrate successfully into the community, and to maintaining the dignity and worth of each client.
Additional Qualifications
- Training, competence and experience in basic counselling, conflict resolution, mediation and cognitive/behavioural strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in assessing individual clients’ behaviours, assessing their needs and risks, developing a case management plan to address those needs, assisting them to identify and solve the practical problems involved in their success in the community, and assisting them to identify and obtain needed community resources.
- Valid St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid Level One certificate that also includes Basic CPR (or other equivalent certification) and valid FOODSAFE certificate.
- CSC training in such areas as Risk Assessment/Risk Management, Motivational Interviewing, Boundaries, Drug and Alcohol Awareness desirable.
- Training and experience working with clients with neurological deficits (e.g. fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, brain-injured individuals) and specifically in effective intervention strategies for adults living with FASD desirable.
- Training and experience in effective intervention strategies for adults with FASD would be an asset.
